Dad’s family

Auntie Doris, Dad’s younger sister, lived at 96 Marsh Road with Uncle Bruce, their two daughters, Jacquie and Mary and their younger boys, Jeffrey and Douglas. Marsh Road was in the old area of Middlesbrough near the station and the docks. Dad’s older brother David emigrated to Australia with his wife, also named Doris, and their daughter. In the early fifties they lost their twelve-year-old son in  a car accident.

I never knew my grandparents on Dad’s side. Both Tommy and Eliza had died before I was old enough to remember them. I can recall sitting around the fire on cold winter’s nights after tea, urging Mam and Dad to re-tell stories about their life and family folklore.
