2014 Remembering school days

Walking back through the market stalls, I found myself confronted by the A66 freeway. I worked out that if I was allowed to stand in the middle of the road, I would be just about on the spot of my old classroom at Smeaton Street Junior School. Originally it was called the Pennyman School, named after the owners of the land which was part of the Ormesby Estate. In fact, many of the streets of North Ormesby had Pennyman family names1.
