2007 – WA Trip

In 2007, Helen and I travelled to WA. I was keen to see the place after all these years. Obviously there had been many changes but the river and the beach looked exactly as I remembered.

The only evidence that the Hostel existed was a graffitied memorial plaque. and the area is now a community-use place for recreation and conference use.                                                                                  The Point Walter Recreation and Conference Centre is a place of cultural heritage significance as a consequence of its social and historical value through initial use as an army training and rehabilitation centre from 1941 in World War II; then as Detention Barracks for POWs and Internees from 1946 to 1947; then as a Migrant Reception Centre following World War II from 1947 to 1971;
